Kim G. Schefler has been with the firm since 2001. She counsels clients in various creative industries throughout media and entertainment, with special expertise in the areas of literary publishing, executive employment and licensing and celebrity endorsements.
In Kim’s literary practice, she represents authors, literary agents, publishing executives, independent publishing companies and others in the publishing industry. Her counsel involves all aspects of the development and exploitation of literary properties across the media spectrum, including various aspects of digital and new media. She also advises literary agents in their own professional relationships and transitions within the literary agenting world.
Kim also negotiates employment agreements for many senior publishing and other media, entertainment, fashion and beauty executives. In addition, Kim structures and negotiates employment agreements on behalf of the small entertainment and media businesses she represents and provides general business counsel to such businesses on day-to-day matters. In her licensing practice, she focuses on counseling prominent designers, models and other creative individuals in the fashion and beauty industries on general business and legal matters with an emphasis on protecting and maximizing the value of their intellectual property and the celebrity persona.
Kim has participated in a number of professional panels over the years on various subjects relating to book publishing, including panels at Digital Book World and the AWP Conference as well as meetings of the Entertainment Arts and Sports Law section of the New York State Bar Association.
Kim also devotes significant time to nonprofit work in support of autism and autism education.
